The aim of the project is to refine an existing verticalizable nursing- and rehabilitation bed, that is linked with a robotic-supported gait-therapy, in such a way that it becomes auto-adaptive. This way, even non-trained personnel may operate the device in an intuitive way. The target groups for the device are intensive-care patients. Often, therapy with such critically ill patients is not feasible because transferring them onto a separate therapy device is too dangerous. Thanks to the described device this working step is not necessary anymore. During the therapy session, the leg movement will be controlled through auto-adaptive, intelligent algorithms. As such, the movement can be steadily optimized to suit the patients’ needs. The Schön-Klinik Bad Aibling serves as the project coordinator and medical partner in a consortium of universities and industrial institutions. The technical research and development will be performed by Reactive Robotics GmbH from Munich and the Institute of Automatic Control (IRT) of the Leibniz University Hannover, where the IRT is responsible for the control and its adaption to the needs of the patient. The University of Rosenheim represents nursing science interests. Furthermore, ethical, legal and social aspects of the project will be studied by Leibniz University and the Evangelical University of Ludwigsburg
